COCKFOSTERS V REDBOURNE (SOMETHING CALLED CRICKET)

Saturday saw Redbourn's 3 team consolidate a steady start to the season with a high scoring draw at Cockfosters 4s. Losing the toss and being asked to bowl on a track with some good bounce, Redbourn sought to limit the run scoring on the short boundaries early on. Good bowling from Nathan Ascroft brought his first wicket of the season, but Excellent batting from 'Fosters opener Brady, who ended on 77no, kept the home side eyeing a big score. From 103-4 from 32 overs, Cockfosters upped the run rate with some big hitting form no 9 White (25no), to finish on 191-7 from the 47 overs, negating a brief rain delay early on.

Redbourn's reply started calamitously, and 3 batsmen were back in the hutch after 5 overs with the score on 14. Simon Read carried on his from last week's fine innings though, by collecting regular boundaries and slowly edging Redbourn into a position to challenge. However, after losing Dennis Gibbs for a flamboyant 22 and Robin Mauder for 13, he departed for an excellent 75. With the overs running out and the excellent Wells, who ended with 4-36, coming back on at the death for Cockfosters, Jimmy Lee and Dilesh Patel held on, and in doing so took Redbourn to within 5 of a full set of batting points at 165-8 from 43.

He didn't do any chucking in that game, but he managed to whack the ball and finished with 12 not out. For the record the attendance at the game was 2, Tapper and me, sad bastards, 7 hours of play and it ended in a draw

An enthralling   game of bat and ball in which Dilesh's lot managed to loose by 81 runs. Dilesh took 2 wickets, made an athletic catch, leaping like a salmon to his left and scored 5 runs.

Don't forget the zipping forward as if on tippy-toe "prancing like a self-sprung buddah" as he bowled
